How To Unlock Your Inner Beast Mode

This is what I want to see when I walk into the gym every day.
Lately I have been in a bit of a slump. School is currently kicking my ass. With the added homework, I am having a tough time juggling work, coaching, my own workouts, and eating enough. But guess what?
Going fetal isn’t going to solve any of my problems.
Just like I tell my clients before they attempt a new PR:
You have to know that you can do it before you even try. Otherwise you will psych yourself out.
This is something I constantly drill in their heads and something I need to remind myself of from time to time. It can be as simple as taking any one of life’s problems and relating it to strength training. You don’t look at a 500lb loaded barbell and just throw your hands up, saying that you can’t do it so you shouldn’t even try. Instead, you put in the work it takes to get that weight up: in 5, 10 or 20lb increments, one week at a time.
Feeling tired in the morning and thinking of skipping your training session? Too bad, your training team is counting on you to be there and to give 100%. Don’t let them down.
Trying to gain weight, but you think that it costs too much? B.S.- Stop wasting money at the bars or on clothes and get in the kitchen. Treat your meals like a workout and starting eating like you mean it.
Let’s say you actually make it to the gym, but your mind is elsewhere and you don’t really feel like giving it your all during the workout. Well guess what? You chose to spend your hard earned money and your valuable time to go to the gym, so why wouldn’t you want to get the most out of it?
Stallone gave it his all when he wiped out the dinosaurs.
Hips, shoulders, or knees giving you trouble? Don’t be an idiot and continue to do the same movements that are give you trouble. Find the source of the problem and take care of it. Stretch more before the workout, get on a lacrosse ball or foam roller and target the problem area. You can’t operate at 100% beast mode if your joints and fascia are only giving you 70%.
Just like in strength training, you don’t tackle life’s problems by trying to take on the whole big picture at once. You put in the work, step by step to overcome the obstacle. Beast mode is accomplished by giving 100% in all that you do, whether it is school, work, training, eating, your relationships, etc.
Take the necessary steps, put your work in, and you will meeting and surpassing your goals in record-breaking time.

  1. An Excellent point here. There is a time for “quiet strength”. It’s usually when you’re being visited by family or in a dentists chair! Approaching a heavy bar or odd object is NOT one of those times. I tell people that I want them pacing like a caged animal and visualizing the successful movement. Then when they are ready they need to charge the bar, set-up, get loud and move it like there was never any doubt. Having the volume on 11 usually doesn’t hurt either! Now lets lift some more stones Brandon! w00t~!

  2. what dinosaur is that?
