Hookgrip has become a mainstream brand in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting from their epic YouTube channel where they used to post a lot of training hall and individual training session content of the top Weightlifters around the world.
They capitalized on this and created their own brand of Weightlifting gear. One of their most popular products is the Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0 which gained its popularity when Chinese Weightlifter Lu Xiaojun started using them in training and competition.
I’ve been using my Hookgrip Knee Sleeves for over 3 years now and I absolutely love them. So without further or do, here is my review of the Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0.
This is one of the areas Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0 differ greatly from other knee sleeves on the market so it makes sense to start by discussing the material. They are made up of 55% nylon, 35% rubber, and 10% spandex which makes them very stretchy.
Knee sleeves are usually made out of neoprene for a stiffer, supportive structure and feeling. Hookgrip knee sleeves are very lightweight and don't restrict any movement making them great knee sleeves when performing the Olympic lifts.
Because of the material differences, the stability of the Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0 is not the same as a neoprene knee sleeve. Being lightweight, thinner, and elastic, they don’t give you the same bounce out of the hole from the squat.
However, these knee sleeves are not intended to add pounds to your squat and provide extra bounce. These are lightweight knee sleeves to keep your knees warm throughout your training session to relieve minor knee pain.
I love my pair and I wear them every session I perform squats and Weightlifting movements.
I find even though they don't provide the same stability as a neoprene knee sleeve, they provide a sense of stability greater than not wearing any knee sleeve through its light compression.
Further, when I have any kind of knee pain, the Hookgrip Knee Sleeve 2.0 keeps my knees warm and reduce some of this pain sensation.
If you're after a knee sleeve that provides a lot of stability and bounce out of the hole, then I would advise a neoprene knee sleeve. If stability isn’t the most important to you, then the Hookgrip Knee Sleeves are the best choice.
Comfort & Fit
These Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0 are the most comfortable knee sleeves I have worn. My neoprene knee sleeves tend to dig into my calf and can start to feel uncomfortable as the training session progresses.
The Hookgrip sleeves do the opposite. They fit nicely over the knee and the way it sits above and below the knee isn’t so tight.
They do tend to slip down through the session but I've not had this problem even with neoprene knee sleeves. They are easy enough to pull back up between sets if I need to so it doesn't bother me.
My Hookgrip Knee Sleeves are still in great shape. After many uses, they have the same tightness and stretch with no pieces of material unraveling.
They get soaked in sweat every session and I’ve had no problems with the quality of this design and manufacturing.
The sizing chart for the Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0 looks like this:
- Extra Small: 88LB - 132LB (40KG - 60KG)
- Small: 120LB - 155LB (55KG - 70KG)
- Medium: 143LB - 187LB (65KG - 85KG)
- Large: 175LB - 220LB (80KG - 100KG)
- Extra Large: 209LB - 253LB (95KG - 115KG)
When I got mine, I was in-between medium and large with my bodyweight. I got the medium size and it was the right choice.
So, if you aren’t sure if you should go the size up or down, the size down is the way to go.
This is where the Hookgrip Knee Sleeves 2.0 shine. At only $14, there is no reason not to have these in your gym bag. Simply having them on hand for cold days or if your knees are feeling a little sore is worth the $14.
Manufactured with high quality material that fits perfectly.
Not as stable as neoprene knee sleeves but provides light compression for the knees.
Easily the most comfortable knee sleeves you can find.
